Keep track of changes to laws

In most countries, making changes to constitutional laws is - and should be - hard. A country's constitution defines the limits for the country: What can not be changed if this country is to be the same in some fundamental ways? Thus, keeping track of changes to your country's constitution is a matter of keeping track of when fundamental changes are taking place.

Different countries handle constitutional law in different ways. Some, like the US, have one central document, and changes are added as amendments. Other countries, like Sweden, have a number of central constitutional laws that are changed on a running basis.

Tracking changes to the first type of constitution is straightforward, but it's another matter for fundamentally different ways to handle constitutional law.

Next Actions

  • Setup a repository to track changes to your own country's constitution over time
  • Define a taxonomy to make the changes easier to understand. How are the core rights defined in the original constitution, and how are these rights expanded or restricted over time?
